Marc Davis Motorsports Makes World Motorsports History

Mooresville, NC (January 31, 2010) –  Marc Davis Motorsports makes world motorsports history with both drivers, one African American and one female, placing top 7 finishes in the historic inaugural Freestate 500 at Phakisa Freeway in Welkom, South Africa.

Marc Davis dominated from the race beginning, leading the stock car pack from the second lap.  Overall, Davis led 24 laps & ran in the top 4 for 185 laps, top 2 for 150 laps.  His best time was 36.501 in the #96 WHUR Howard University Radio/The Word Network Chevy, finishing in 3rd place overall and taking a visit to the winner’s podium.

Daniels ran in the top 13 for most of the race, with 75 laps in the top 10 or better in the #19 SnowTheRacehorse.com Toyota.  At the halfway mark of the race, Davis led the field and Daniels was right behind him in 3rd.  Daniels’ best time was 37.384 and finished as a personal best in 7th place.

“It was a great day overall for Marc Davis Motorsports cars – a solid top 7 finish for both of us.  We came up short at the end of the day, but we put on a great show and I had a blast here in South Africa,” said Davis, 19. “I definitely want to come back and win in the NEXT South African race.  When they announce the next race, I’ll be the first in line to sign up!”

Daniels, 25, echoed the sentiments, saying, “What an amazing 207 laps – it took everything I had to give in the South African heat, and I did it.  What a fantastic country and a historic race, and such a great tribute to Marc’s dad Harry Davis, patriarch of Marc Davis Motorsports – who passed away last week. He would be so proud of both of us. “

“I’m so proud to be able to represent the United States, women, the next generation and the kids of the world in the SnowTheRacehorse.com Toyota - showing that you CAN achieve your dreams.  It’s great to not only have a diverse team with different faces, but also to be able to back that up on the track – what racing is all about,” Daniels continued.

I am so excited and honored to be invited to participate in the ASA Free State "500". More than the racing that I live for, I am looking forward to making new friends and visiting your beautiful country. I share your joy of celebrating and the pride you must have to host the 2010 World Cup. My car, The Spirit of '96, is named to honor the famous Bafana Bafana team and encourage the return to glory knowing that IT'S POSSIBLE to win. I am coming to South Africa knowing that it's possible for me to win through friendship and competition. However the most important lesson will be that when I leave South Africa, South Africa will never leave me.

I am thrilled to be traveling to South Africa to compete in the ASA Transcontinental Series Free State 500 at Phakisa Freeway Circuit. This will be my first race outside of the United States and my first trip to South Africa. I am looking forward to racing on the 1.5 mile tri-oval, but beyond the race, I cannot wait to visit your country and experience the unique and diverse culture. I am looking forward to learning about South Africa, seeing the countryside and wildlife, and hopefully making many new friends. I want to share my engineering and racing experience with my South African competitors and listen to theirs. Marc and I hope that our Marc Davis Motorsports team cars with their bright colors and "Bafana Bafana" logos will display our team's best wishes for good luck to your soccer team and our congratulations for being selected to host the 2010 World Cup. I believe this will be a great experience for all of us to share!
